Wine had become a problem.

Every morning I promised myself I would not drink that night. By about three o'clock, that promise had already started slipping away. I was not opening a bottle yet. I was simply waiting for what felt like the respectable time to pour the first glass. I thought I had a willpower problem. Scripture showed me something much deeper.

A Personal Note

What I Was Really Reaching For

For years I could not explain why that promise faded every afternoon. Looking back now, I can see I was never just reaching for a drink. If you had looked at my life from the outside, you probably would have thought I had it all together. I loved my family. I loved my career. I loved Jesus. But every evening there was a private struggle no one knew about.

Relief meant something different depending on the night. Relaxation. Entertainment. A cure for loneliness or boredom. Something to get through a stressful day. Wine had become a learned, quick promise to bring whatever I needed. It also held me back from ever looking for another way. Over time, it took more of it to get the same result.

I already knew what Jesus said: "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NLT). I realized I was not just tired. I was weary. Then I saw it: every evening I was reaching for wine before I ever reached for Him, asking it to give me the peace, comfort, and rest only Christ had ever promised. That realization became the beginning of the first thing I ever wrote about this journey.

The Evening I Was Afraid to Have

The fear was not simply the evening without wine. It was surrendering the one thing I had never been willing to give God, even while I brought Him everything else I thought made me good. If your evenings look anything like mine, a nightly wine habit you have tried to quiet more times than you can count, start here.

About Carrie

I am Carrie Kavanagh, wife, mother, and a Christian woman who spent years reaching for wine every evening without understanding why. As I prayed and surrendered this part of my life to God, I became convinced He was asking me to put down the wine and trust Him. Over time, I also became convinced He wanted to use my story to help other women living the same private struggle. That became the beginning of Rewired by Grace™.

People often think I only help women stop drinking. I do, but wine had become a real problem, not just a symptom of something else, and understanding why they kept choosing it, night after night, whether relief meant relaxing, coping, celebrating, or just making the day feel over, is only the beginning. What I am really helping women walk into is freedom, clarity, and purpose.

I believe God designed our minds with the capacity to change, and that Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. I believe His grace renews our minds, reshapes our hearts, and helps us build new patterns of living. That is why it is called Rewired by Grace™. My mission is to help Christian women break free from the habits and patterns that keep them from fully experiencing Jesus, so they can live with the freedom, peace, and purpose He has for them.

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind."

Romans 12:2
